WILD ABSTRACTS @ The Studio

Wild Abstracts from 2013

Join us for two nights in September when we create wild abstract art inspired by artist Jackson Pollock, 9/11 and 9/18. Fee is $12 for one 30x30 wrapped canvas. You can reserve 2 canvases if you like, just RSVP to deAnn (droe@lwccyork.com) and let her know how many you want.

Check your basements, closets or garage fo...r any left-over interior latex wall paint from your home improvement projects. Bring it along to share with all. We will all chip in our wall paint (no oil base paints please) which is a good way to get rid of the stuff and have a variety of colors to choose from. For a few dollars you can go to Lowes or Home Depot and get sample size cans of any color you want. So you can custom create a painting for a specific room in your home.

We did this project last year (see the images in this post) and it was a HUGE HIT! So much fun! I hope you can join us in September. Room is limited so RSVP quick!

For these special nights at The Studio - we will NOT meet in the coffee bar but will meet in Kid::Life Room, 320.

Hope to see you next month at The Studio ~

Artists in Community

A small glimpse into the Night of Worship.

I just returned from the Creative Church Conference set in the stunningly beautiful city of Boise, Idaho (I found out I was mispronouncing it - I was saying "boy-zee" when it's actually pronounced "boy-see"). Love the city! Love Vineyard Boise, the church that hosted the conference. Love VineArts (the arts ministry of the church) led by the amazing Jessie Nilo and her equally amazing team of loving artists. The theme of the conference: Artists in Community. Yes, it is possible.

Having just returned home yesterday, in the middle of the night, I'm still exploring all that God has deposited in me while there. It's very hard to put into words at this point. But what I have come away with the most is the impact of a deeply loving community of creatives and artists. A community where lines are blurred between "professional" artists and "emerging" artists. Where love for Jesus  and love for others reigns FAR above what our art looks like, what gallery its hanging in, or if we have a spectacular home studio or not. Love. Period. I'm forever changed by the presence of the Holy Spirit who was very present at the conference. My spiritual family grew as I was introduced to all the new siblings in Christ that I met. My heart has expanded. God is so full of goodness!

If you want to be blown away by the love God has for you, watch this sermon by potter/pastor Dave Blakeslee (link below). He uses the art of throwing pots as a powerful illustration for his sermons. You can see it here. I highly recommend it.

The Write Space

We are excited to announce a fresh new writers community launching this fall through Infused Arts at LWCC - The Write Space.

Here's what we are working on so far:

Purpose for this Group
Encouragement – Inspiring – intentional – practical – teaching – mentoring

Two major facets to TWS:
*Creative
*Practical

We desire for writers to feel better when they leave than when then they arrived. We want writers to feel safe and validated.

When will this Group Meet
Meet every Thursday of every other month (opposite of The Studio) in the large conference room beginning in October 2014 (Oct, Dec, Feb, Apr, Jun, Aug).

Themes/ideas for meetings
  • October (5 Weeks) – The Rhythms of Writing (How to Release the Work Stirring Within You)
  • December (2 Weeks) – From Word to Life (A look at Advent)

Ideas for October’s theme:
Your writing space – writing goals – expectations – resources – what is God stirring in you – what are you reading – why are you reading it

We will certainly keep you in the loop and more information will be coming soon. Stay tuned!

Pathway to the Arts Exhibit

Pathway to the Arts exhibit is on display at Living Word Community Church from now to June 29.

These beautiful paintings were created by individuals in the Pathway program of the Jessica and Friends Community.

Pathway Services is a faith-based, community-integrated, day program providing lifelong learning opportunities for autistic and intellectually disabled individuals, 18 years of age and older.

The artistic process is a very specific, art-based therapy, which stimulates immediate attention, memory and behavior improvements. Kim Martin works one-on-one with our individuals to create beautiful paintings through this directed painting technique. The individuals experience a sense of achievement and significance, which is often lacking in the lives of individuals with unique challenges. Their paintings serve as their forever reminders of the precious people the Lord created them to be.
