TRUST::Prayer Wall

For years this prayer wall has occupied space in the main lobby of Living Word Community Church. It's a bit hidden down toward the Kid::Life entrance. Last week I gave it a new look with the help of artist, Ange Bentivegna, who painted the large "TRUST" circle which hangs in the center of the wall.

I'm making a commitment to start off each Monday morning reading the heartfelt prayers and lifting each person, need, concern, and praise up to the Lord in prayer.

This morning I unlocked my office door, tossed my bag onto the desk and headed out to the prayer wall. It was evident that many new prayers had been added since last week and was thankful that that people are seeking prayer and desire to be heard by God through the Holy Spirit, who intercedes for us.

Next Monday I'll have a box of tissues with me. As I read the vulnerable prayers of broken hearts I was overcome with compassion for our church family and their great need for comfort, healing, restoration, deliverance, and hope. I just stood there and sobbed uncontrollably. One that really touched my heart was from a pre-teen, I'm assuming, who was struggling with his/her parents constant fighting. This young person's heart poured deep sadness and confusion onto the colored paper and asked for peace in the times of conflict.

Another was asking God not to let her daughter die. One mom/wife was praying for her husband to come home to the family. Many prayers for healing from cancer and addictions. One simply stated, "Lord please heal my wife's cervical cancer. And if not, may Your grace be enough." I was undone. With a heavy heart, I held up to the Father each prayer on the wall and asked God to provide exactly what each person needed. It is a privilege to hold these people in prayer and to know that God will provide. In my spirit I feel a connection with each person, even though I don't know their names.

"O my people, trust in Him at all times. Pour out your heart to Him, for God is our refuge." Psalm 62:9

That is what the prayer wall is... a place to pour out our hearts before the Lord and take refuge beneath His wing.

Trust. Believe. Faith. Lord, in Your great mercy, give us more trust in You, the ability to believe with our whole heart and to grow deeply in our faith. Amen.

"He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise of our God. Many will see what He has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord." Psalm 40:3

I can't think of a better way to start off the week then interceding for my church family and their prayerful needs. Please visit the wall. Place a prayer upon it. Say a few prayers for those already there. Your heart will be blessed. Honestly.

Joy and peace,
deAnn Roe

The George Street Artists

My friend, Clifton Kern, sent me this video of The George Street Artists. Yes, York's George Street. It's awesome! York is really moving toward the arts and renewing the downtown area through local home-grown creativity. I believe you'll be inspired and encouraged through this 22 minute video to visit and support the arts in York City. I know I am.

Joy and peace, deAnn

Beginner/Intermediate Watercolor Class

Beginner/Intermediate Watecolor Class
  • Saturday, May 4
  • 9:00am-1:00pm
  • Taught by Micah Neff
  • Fee: $20
  • Limited to 15 participants, RSVP ASAP as this will fill up!

DETAILS:
... This will be a watercolor workshop for beginners/intermediates. I include intermediates because I consider myself an intermediate. The learning never ends in the art world and watercolor has so many facets! This will be strictly watercolors, no mixed media this time round.

Many people pop out of the woodwork when you mention watercolors. "I cannot do watercolors"......"it is a scary medium...I stay away from it!"....."I tried them long ago and could never get the hang of it". Sound familiar? Thought they'd ring a bell. And it was the same for me. What watercolors do when you put them on the paper is take on a life of their own. As a control freak, this is not fun....so I thought. Finally, I just caved in one day and threw paint all over the paper, not caring what it might look like, or not look like! It was magical. Then I learned a few techniques for textures.....more magic... Oh, wait, but it looks nothing like I planned! I had to learn to look at the completed work like a stranger. They do not see all the labor of an idea or it preparations. It is "fresh" to them.
In this workshop I want to spend time showing colors, making them bleed. Getting the paper wet and being bold about just making that paper be your space to fill. The paper can become an enemy if you just stare at it and fret. We will do washes, blends, and techniques for rubbing out color and saving whites to create unusual effects.

The first hour to maybe an hour and a half I will spend going over materials, preparing a nice work space, some color theory, and how to shop wisely/economically for the basics in the medium. I will also do a short demo. Beware!...demos can be very fun/funny. I've seen some wonderful pieces come out of professional demos, and some real "flops" from those same professional artists! I got a LOT of courage from seeing big names do funny demos.

The $20 for this workshop will give you 2 brushes to keep, small ( about card size) pieces of professional grade papers to work with, enough student grade watercolors to give you a taste, and a small plastic palette of your own to get started..........oh, and a "door prize"! We will throw your names in a hat and during the break one of the leaders will do the drawing. Hint: the door prize is nice!

Please bring any photos you might want to work with or share with others. Copying others is a good way to learn, too. There will be books with examples in for you to try. There are so many wonderful watercolor books to find today.

Come join us for some art fellowship and get your brushes wet...and be BOLD!
